Barbeque Night!

Chris got a new bbq last fall and it's been sitting idly by, all winter long, waiting for its moment to shine.  We decided that it was finally warm enough to warrant a party, and yesterday was the day.  It was going to be a Cinco de Mayo party, but the 5th isn't until tomorrow, so we called it the Tres de Mayo party until Chris got his spanish mixed up.  It is now called the Tres de Cinco bbq.

In attendance were myself and Chris (naturally), Melissa, Linda, Jamie, Cathy and her man Keith,  Cindy and her man Gabe and her mom Shirley, Loretta and her husband Larry, Shelley and her husband Al, Chris' mom Laurie and Barbara and her man Gary.

The menu?
hot dogs with a mango chutney relish
hamburgers, either jalapeno or feta, with the good buns
deviled eggs with horseraddish (wonderful!)
beans and ginger (I think?)
potato salad
cole slaw (no idea what was in that, but it was good)
coconut or almond brownies
lemon merangue ice cream pie (incredible!)

The bbq was a lot of fun and I'm already looking forward to the next one.  The summer corn should be really great this year, and I'm sure Chris has a million recipes in mind and is working out the menu already.

Sunday

What a lovely weekend.  The weather is warm and gentle, the evenings are cool and relaxing and while I will greatly miss the cold weather and rain, I look forward to the days ahead of BBQs and drinks in the courtyard with friends and music playing in the house with all the windows open.  And is it just me, or does food taste better in the summer?  Corn on the cob, summer squash, blackberries, hamburgers, etc etc.

And does anyone out there have a truly great recipe for sangria, one they can vouch for?  I've only had swill when it comes to sangria and I'd love to know how to make it properly and wow my friends.

It's Easter Sunday and I feel like an utter heathen for not going to church today.  I had many weak reasons, but I should have just gotten myself together and gone.  I decided if I wasn't going to take care of my soul, I would at least be productive and work around the house, so I dragged out the power washer and did some more cleaning of the 8,000,000 bricks in the courtyard.  I have to admit, it's looking more and more awesome all the time.  I should have also mowed the lawn, but it's such a boring chore and I can always do it next weekend.

How to spend the rest of the day?  Maybe music and reading and laying about.  But first...shower.
