In attendance were myself and Chris (naturally), Melissa, Linda, Jamie, Cathy and her man Keith, Cindy and her man Gabe and her mom Shirley, Loretta and her husband Larry, Shelley and her husband Al, Chris' mom Laurie and Barbara and her man Gary.
The menu?
hot dogs with a mango chutney relish
hamburgers, either jalapeno or feta, with the good buns
deviled eggs with horseraddish (wonderful!)
beans and ginger (I think?)
potato salad
cole slaw (no idea what was in that, but it was good)
coconut or almond brownies
lemon merangue ice cream pie (incredible!)
The bbq was a lot of fun and I'm already looking forward to the next one. The summer corn should be really great this year, and I'm sure Chris has a million recipes in mind and is working out the menu already.

Last night Chris and I had some friends over for dinner and it was one of those evenings when you suddenly look at your watch and you've been sitting at the table for four hours. Chris and I, Cindy and Gabe and Cindy-Mama Shirley had a lovely time, and here are a few accompanying photos...

I've recently come to the realization that I'm going to have to let one of my friends go. Granted, she's someone I was closer to in the past and whose company I once enjoyed, but over the years her personality quirks have made it difficult to remain friends. I have a soft spot for social misfits, which she definitely is, but we really have nothing in common and she drives most people batty.
For whatever reason, she seems to think we're kindrid spirits. I think she believes we were siblings in another life or something, and I just don't get why she thinks we're so much alike. She also will latch on to anything, or anyone, I think is "cool." It's really quite odd. A few years ago she bought a house about half a mile from mine, because I really love living on the west side of town and she thought she should too. When I was in her house for the first time, I noticed that her wall colors were eerily familiar. I realized they were the same color as my living room, and when I pointed this out she said "Yeah, I tried to match it as best I could from memory." I told her the color I had chosen was Cork and she said "Aha! Cork! I was trying to remember the name!" Two weeks later she called me to ask what color my lightswitch and outlet covers were. When I asked her why she wanted to know, she said "I bought new ones, but I don't like them and I know yours looked really good."
The final straw came this weekend when I realized that she's intensely jealous of my boyfriend. I ran into her a few days ago and she suggested we get together this weekend. I said I didn't have other plans and that Chris wanted to get to know her better so perhaps we could have some wine and sit out on the patio at his house. She said "Yeah, I want to get to know him better too, but I'd really rather it just be the two of us." I was dumbstruck. Who does that?? It was at that point that I realized she wants to be my boyfriend and she wants to have all my attention and she's utterly jealous of Chris. I don't know why I never saw it before, but it's clear as day to me now.
Definitely time to cut myself loose and let this friendship quietly die. And many thanks to
EDITED TO ADD: Actually, just about all of my friends have been trying to get me to see this too. But it was a comment Anita made that turned on the lightbulb.
